Artifact Motherhood - First Tooth

This week you lost your first tooth to an apple in a bath of blood. As gross as it sounds, you were very brave, stating matter of factly that you were fine because your body had lots more blood so you could cope with losing a little. Having missed your brothers first tooth, I was super excited to be there for this one and promptly supplied you with a square of kitchen roll so that you could wrap the tooth ready for the tooth fairy.

The following morning, Daddy came to kiss your sleepy head before he went to work. In the bare wakefulness of that goodbye you must have remembered your lost tooth because just as I could hear Daddy pulling out of the drive, you bounded into my room, flooded it with light and announced with pride that the tooth fairy had left you a hefty parcel in place of your tooth. You laid next to my pillow and counted out the coins to the sum of five pounds and told me that it must have been a good first tooth to fetch such a good price. Your gappy smile made my morning and I was once again grateful to be able to witness all the joys of your childhood.

Welcome to Artifact Motherhood. This is a collaboration of artists from around the world who have come together to share our stories of the joys and struggles of our journey. Through our writings and visual records we want to create memories that are more than photographs with dates written on the back. These are the artifacts we are leaving behind for our children and for generations to come.
