The Innocence Eater

We watch from the platform, voiceless screams knocking on the roofs of our mouths, asking but failing to get out.

We watch, helpless as his great powerful jaws bite into the boy’s naivety , clamping down with an unreckoned force.

We watch as his violence is eclipsed by a mother’s calm and clarity.

The reckoning comes when she meets his force with hers.

Gentle yet strong, she swims away, water lapping at her ears, pulling her love from a watery descent into the cavernous despair of his own innocence.

The voiceless screams in our throat cease their knocking as the need to knock ceases.
